Motets are polyphonic vocal works, usually with sacred texts, popular in the middle ages and the renaissance. They often involve imitation, where one voice enters later, imitating an earlier voice. Palestrina wrote a large number of motets, of which Sicut Cervus is one example.
Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
