Winter, from Four Seasons, 1st movement Vivaldi Help Opus Details
For feedback and questions, please contact Victor Gomersall.
Winter, from Four Seasons, 1st movt - Allegro non molto. Starting with repeated notes on the cellos, this movement opens with a cascading suspended chord of G diminished over a suspended F, which descends to an E in the 5th bar creating a G dimished 7th, then in the 6th bar this resolves into an F minor chord. The solo violin enters in bar 4 with repeated trilled Bbs. This jagged discordant opening skillfully represents shivering in the icy winter weather. Many may not like this movement, as it is hardly tuneful music. Whoever said that 'programme music' was invented in the 19th century?
