This 1st movement of piano Quartet K478 is in sonata form. The first theme of the exposition is played in unison between piano and violins for 2 bars, followed by the piano alone leaping up to a very high D. A short new theme in the relative major key (Bb major) is played on the piano before the 3rd theme is introduced by the strings, and then followed up on the piano, with greater eloboration.
