Gigue (pronounced 'jeeg') is the French word for jig, a fast dance tune in triple time. The Italian word is 'Giga', pronounced 'jeega'. Corelli was unusual for a composer of his time (1653 - 1713), in that he wrote only instrumental music, when most contemporaries wrote mostly vocal music, especially for the church. In his sonatas Corelli often used a jig as his last movement (often the 5th, sometimes the 4th movement). This jig is one such example, here played as a solo on the harpsichord.
