Piano Concerto No.2 in F Minor, Op 21, 1st movement Chopin Help Opus Details
For feedback and questions, please contact Victor Gomersall.
Chopin composed his 2 piano concertos just before he left Poland to settle permanently in Paris. They show strong influence from the Irishman, John Field, in the long lyrical; passages for the right hand of the piano. They use ornamentation for emotional effect rather than virtuosic bravado. The orchestra's role is definitely subordinate to the piano, mostly providing a harmonic backdrop in front of which the piano shines out. Chopin's orchestral introductions are long, often embodying most of the themes taken up later by the piano. Fundamentally, these are piano works, illustrating Chopin as the supreme craftsman for that instrument.
