Fantasie Impromptu Op 66 Chopin Help Opus Details
For feedback and questions, please contact Victor Gomersall.
Chopin composed his Fantasie-impromptu in 1834, but did not want it published for reasons which are not clear even today. It was none-the-less published posthumously. It starts with an incredibly fast and virtuosic semi-quaver passage in C# minor, which is theme A of the ABA ternary form of this fantasy. It uses cross rhythms with triplets in the left hand against the semiquavers in the right hand. The middle section is a languid melody in Db major, contrasting sharply with the previous passages. It forms theme B of the ABA ternary form. This tune was adapted in the 20th century, for the opening verse of the popular song I'm Always Chasing Rainbows. The fantasie-impromptu is amongst Chopin's most popular works, and has been featured in several film scores and even in quite a few computer games!
