2    The 2nd subject is a chirpy birdsong tune on the flute, which later dominates the whole first movement.

3    This 3rd theme follows theme 2 with a slightly bolder tune on the clarinets, with pizzicato strings in the background.

1    After 12 bars of dramatic introduction, the flutes and oboes introduce theme 1 of the scherzo


2    Flutes and oboes play this 2nd theme against a a whimsical repeated phrase from the bassoons.
