Pachelbel
Return to List of Composers
Johann Pachelbel was born in Germany in 1653. This composer belonged to the Baroque period, and died in 1706.
PachelbelJohann
Pachelbel (1653 - 1706) was a leading organist and
composer, who knew the Bach family, and even taught
Johann Sebastian Bach's elder brother. He wrote much organ music, as his
career was primarily as organist at various famous cathedrals in
Germany.
He also wrote a fair amount of notable chamber music. Since 1970, his Canon
and Gigue in D has become a baroque hit, particularly because it was used in
a number of TV adverts and film soundtracks at that time. It is a fine piece of
music, though probably over-rated, since no-one ever hears anything else written
by him these days.
