Mikhael Ippolitov-Ivanov (1859-1935) was born near St Petersburg in Russia. He studied at that city's Conservatory,and then under Rimsky-Korsakov. His career spanned through the Russian revolution of 1917, composing a wide variety of music. However, his only  composition played regularly is "Procession of the Sardar" from his Caucasian Sketches.
