Dukas Return to List of Composers
Paul Dukas was born in France in 1865. This composer belonged to the Impressionist period, and died in 1935. Paul Dukas

Paul Dukas is only known for one composition, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", which is a Scherzo for Orchestra. This piece was featured in Walt Disney's "Fantasia", depicting Mickey Mouse casting magic spells over a broom and a bucket of water, with disastrous results in the end!  In particular, the bassoon theme represents the essence of this work.

Dukas was a friend of Debussy.  He did also write other instrumental works and one opera.
