Aaron Copland is an American composer known for his works reflecting aspects of American life. He was born in New York, then he went to study in Paris at the age of 21, where he was a pupil of Nadia Boulanger.

He returned to USA in 1924, and composed 3 ballets on American themes, Rodeo, Billy the Kid, and Appalachian Spring.

His popular concert work, Fanfare for the Common Man is a distinctive short piece featuring an opening with the timpani, followed by a solo trumpet fanfare, and then using more instruments gradually.
