Granville Bantock was born in England in 1868. This composer belonged to the Romantic period, and died in 1946. Granville Bantock

Sir Granville Bantock (1868 - 1946) is a late English romantic composer. He was trained for the Indian Civil Service, then as a chemical engineer, before studying music at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1899.

Most of his music was written on a very large scale, for huge orchestra, following the traditions of Wagner and Richard Strauss in Germany.  This type of music fell out of favour by 1920, partly because of the practical lack of large orchestras after the war. So he did write a few small-scale works, and his Hebrew Melody 'Hamabdil' is an example of these.
